City Guide for the Austrian City Salzburg

Located along the border with Bavaria, Salzburg is internationally famous as the birthplace of Mozart, the filming location for The Sound of Music, and the home to one of Europe’s largest classical music festivals. Mozart’s Geburtshaus

No visit to Salzburg is complete without a tour of the home composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in. This distinctive yellow house is located at No. 9 on the famous shopping street Getreidegasse. Amazingly, this house has been open to visitors since at least 1880. Tours inside this house last about one-hour, and much of the furniture inside is authentic to the 18th century. There are also many letters and memorabilia inside this house/museum that help tell the story of Mozart’s formative years.

Looking for a day-trip into Germany on your trip to Salzburg? Look no further than the Bavarian capital of Munich. If you’re a beer-lover, try to schedule your visit for the month of October. Munich is famous around the world as the center of Oktoberfest.
