Duisburg probably isn’t the first place you think of when you’re looking for a holiday destination. It’s pretty much in the middle of the Ruhrgebiet, the world’s largest industrial area, and it also just isn’t that well known. It’s a frequent destination for business travellers though, because it’s a major manufacturing centre, so if you deal with German exporters there’s a good chance you’ll end up there some time. In fact if you’re reading this page you’re probably planning a trip right now.

Well, we have some good news for you; Duisburg isn’t a bad place to visit at all. Yes, it has diverse industries – everything from iron smelting to beer – and it’s the site of the world’s largest inland harbour. But it also has a history that dates back to Roman times and a lively social life. There’s an amazing amount of green space and some very attractive lakes, so it’s actually easier to get back to nature than it is in many much smaller cities. Then there’s music, museums, some stunning architecture, modern art exhibits and the usual pleasant German café and bar culture.

The city also has a large campus of the Duisburg- Essen University, and that’s what caught or eye at Krypton Escort Service. There are over 20,000 students in Duisburg and our belief is that students make the best escorts. They’re young, smart, confident and fun-loving – all the things you want when you’re in a new city and looking for some company. Krypton has followed this philosophy since we started operating in Berlin and we’ve stuck to it as we expand into other German cities; now you reap the benefits on your visit to Duisburg!

Those benefits will make a real difference to your time here. On a business trip you often don’t have a lot of free time – just a few hours in the evening, perhaps. It’s tempting to spend it sprawled on your hotel bed, watching TV and eating all the snacks from the minibar, but you can have a lot more fun if you get out and explore the city. That’s where a college girl companion comes in really useful. She’ll be familiar with Duisburg’s social life, and able to lead you to all the best places. She’ll also be great company for any other activities you plan – and there are a lot of choices. Here are a few ideas:

    Go diving

No, not in the Rhine; that would be slightly dangerous. Duisburg has two diving centres though – one in a reservoir and one in an old gasometer. Both offer equipment hire and there’s plenty to see underwater – the reservoir has old buildings at the bottom, and some interesting objects have been sunk in the gasometer; there’s a light aircraft in there, for example.

    Have a picnic

Just a few minutes by taxi from the city centre is the Sechs-Seen-Platte, or Six Lakes. It’s a popular spot for sailing, swimming, sunbathing and walking. Stroll in the woods or eat ice cream beside a lake – or ask your college girl escort to bring her swimsuit.

    Tour the museums

Some of the escorts like exploring museums – let us know if that interests you – and Duisburg has a good selection. As well as the usual town history museums there’s a collection of boats celebrating the ancient Rhine barge trade. It’s housed in a converted swimming pool just a few minutes from the harbour, where there are two larger museum ships.

    Music for everyone

Like most German cities Duisburg has its own orchestra – the Duisburg Philharmonic - and a renowned opera house, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. If classical isn’t your thing don’t worry; there’s plenty of modern music too. Your companion will know the best clubs and live venues.

Dining in Duisburg

Inside

Inside is well named – it’s inside the Casino Duisburg, in the city centre. Don’t worry though – it’s well soundproofed and the sounds of happy gamblers won’t distract you from your meal. We were glad to see this because the food really does deserve to be appreciated; contemporary European, it’s outstandingly well prepared and accompanied by a good wine list. Dinner at Inside is so good that you shouldn’t be distracted from it by anything less than a gorgeous student escort.

L’Osteria

Italian food’s always at its best when there’s some life in the atmosphere, and L’Osteria has plenty of both. Overlooking the inner harbour, just to the north of the city centre, this is a popular dinner destination with a large and tempting menu. For sunny evenings there’s a terrace by the harbour, and when it gets dark you can head for their very nice bar. Overall L’Osteria is an ideal place for entertaining someone special.

Walsumer Hof

Near the Rhine in Duisberg’s northern outskirts, this family-run restaurant is the place to go for seafood fans. Being traditionally German they have a selection of pork dishes too, of course, but what they can do with fish is simply amazing. Any fish can be smoked to order on the premises and there are plenty of snacks while you wait. Just remember to take cash – they don’t have a card machine.

Top Duisburg Hotels

  • Hotel Rheingarten

The Hotel Rheingarten is ideal if you want to be close to the city centre but not right in the middle of it. It’s on the bank of the Rhine, exactly at the point where the Ruhr river flows into it, a few minutes by taxi from central Duisburg. The dining room has a terrace overlooking the river – ideal for a romantic dinner on a summer evening. The bar is also extremely nice, although it can get quite lively at weekends. Don’t worry though, there’s room service if you’d rather entertain your companion there.

  • Ferrotel Duisburg

The Ferrotel is centrally located, but the soundproofing is outstanding – you’re not going to be kept awake by traffic or noise from the street. Rooms are decently sized and comfortable, and also recently modernised. There’s some quirky décor involving bits of an old coal mine, which gives it more character than you often find in a city centre hotel. If you want to explore central Duisburg this is a very good choice.

  • Hotel Conti Duisburg

Modern, comfortable and located at the southern edge of the city centre, Hotel Conti is a favourite with business travellers. The rooms are spacious and well equipped – the bathrooms are particularly impressive, with excellent, powerful showers. There’s a sauna and a nice pool if you’re looking for somewhere to relax and unwind, and the bar is very pleasant if swimming isn’t relaxing enough.
